Stirring up your Audience

If you live in Texas or any Southern state, you are familiar with fire ants. Among the first painful lessons any child in this part of the U.S. learns is the necessity of avoiding these little creatures.

A typical nest appears as though nothing is happening. Yet, one need only slightly disturb the surface to discover a frenzy of activity.

Most people in an audience portray themselves as an undisturbed fire ant den. Nothing going on, everything is peachy.

That’s why all my introductions are aimed at trying to safely yet uncomfortably disturb them in order to expose what’s happening beneath the surface. All good introductions surface a genuine need to listen.
